Positive Thinking

The Secret. The power of positive thinking. If you’ve ever read the book or seeing the movie, you will know what i’m talking about.

The Secret is loosely based on the book Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill; which I highly recommend. Every adult should read it. As a matter of fact it should be a requirement in all high schools.

But that’s neither here nor there.

The Secret focuses on the power of positive thinking. Thoughts become things is a mantra. Think positive thoughts and your will see positive results in your life.

It’s true!

It’s very easy to think positive. However, it’s even easier to be negative. It’s easy to talk yourself out of any challenge or risk in life; which is why most people never accomplish anything. If you’re scared or being negative about things, your can’t fake it. Negativity is always obvious. It shows up in your facial expressions, the way you talk, your posture, your tone of voice, and just how you carry yourself in general. If you don’t believe in yourself, believe me, the world will know.

This is the Opposite of The Secret!

Self doubt and negative thoughts are obvious because they have physical response. Whether you know it or not, you tense up. Your muscles get tense which screws with your coordination and timing. No matter how small, it’s noticeable.

What can you do to overcome negativity? Here are 2 solutions that helped me in my everyday life.

  1. Don’t Ignore Your Negative Thoughts. Respect Them!

Find out what is holding you back. Then put them in the background. DO NOT try to fight them. Don’t try to fake it. The more you fight your negative thoughts, the more they come back. So instead of trying to fight them or suppress them, just keep them as background noise. A great way to do this is to take out a piece of paper, write your negative thought, your issue, or your problem on it and put it away. Leave your problem on the paper. Take it out when you are ready to face it or throw it away if it’s something miniscule.

2. Call It Something Else

This is not faking it, this is making it something else. Instead of seeing things as challenges or problems, see them as opportunities. Don’t say to yourself “Uh Oh. I’m Nervous”. Instead say to yourself “I’m excited!” or “I’m psyched to get this done!” This doesn’t change the challenge, but it changes your perspective and your mindset. You go from Watch yourself to Let’s get it on. Then your adrenaline turns into positivity.

There you have it. The Secret! Stop being a Negative Nancy and focus on the positive.

Conquer the World!

Until next time

BreakUp

A lot of men don’t know how to handle a breakup well. When you know you won’t get her back. Having been on both ends of a breakup a few times, as well helping a few friends deal with breakups, let me break down the next 6 months of your life after a long term breakup.

The day after

You are still emotional. This can be love, rage, or just flat out hate.

It’s normal to try to pick a fight with her, anyone at the bar, the wall, or with anyone really. You still have negative emotions which most likely turns into physical aggression.

Solution: Hit the gym. Lift heavy weights and do some cardio. This helps reduce anger, tension, and fatigue.

1 Week Later

You are still in that obsessive stage. You reminisce on all the things you used to do together and all the fun times you used to have. Every time you hang out with friends you think about her. The conversations shift towards her and ranges from good to hurt.

Solution: Take a road trip with a friend or join a sports league. As men, we don’t recover by talking about things, that just makes it worse. We recover by doing things with friends.

1 Month Later

By this point, if you have been trying to move on, you should be ok. You’ve deleted her as a contact from your phone, email, and social media. You should be as happy as if you were still in a relationship. Some men are still trying to cope though.

Solution: It’s not uncommon to pursue your ex at least once during this time. For me it mostly came during a drunk dial or drunk email. You will never feel worse than after contacting your ex. So what should you do? Write it down! Write it down and put it away. When you’re in the right state of mind after a day or so, read it and you will see how silly it is. Throw it out and move on.

6 Months Later

You finally accepted it. You know you accepted it when you realize you haven’t thought about her. It’s been at least a week or longer and you haven’t even realized that you haven’t thought about her. By this point, you have returned to your normal state or composure and stability.

It’s now time to dive back into dating. Take your time. Don’t rush it.

After more than my fair share of breakups and being heartbroken, knowing these things, I will never be heartbroken again.

Until next time

kids

Children can teach us many things. From being brutally honest about everything to not giving a fuck about anything.

Here are 6 lessons i learned from my son and my niece.

1.Eat breakfast

You will always have more energy to power through your day after eating a good breakfast. And you don’t always have to have a prize at the bottom of the box

2. Always tell the hard truth

Kids are brutally honest. As adults, sometimes we do not want to hurt people’s feelings. But you know what? It’s necessary. Don’t beat around the bush. Just be brutally honest. Granted my son is only 2 but he tells me what he likes and doesn’t like, when me or his mom are being ‘mean’, when he doesn’t want something, or when he’s just not happy.

3. Ask a lot of question

That’s how you learn things and figure things out.

4. Keep loyal friends

Childhood friends are usually the most loyal.

5. Just Jump In

My son is 2. I took him to the beach. He wanted to go in the water. When I took him, he didn’t dip his toes in to feel the temperature; he knew what he wanted to he just jumped in. So MEN; you want to do something?! Don’t test it, Just Do It!

6. Have Fun

They run, they jump, they lift things. Guess what? They don’t think of it as ‘working out’. They don’t think of it as ‘fitness’. They are just having fun.

We can learn a lot from kids. Heck even from our own childhood memories!

To Do List

Did you achieve all your goals this year? Did you set any? Did you get things done? If so, what steps did you take to make them happen?

Yes you read that right. Steps.

You don’t get to the top of the ladder without climbing the steps. But sometimes we focus so much on what’s at the top, that we lose sight or motivation to get there.

There are many options to staying on track as well as keeping track of your progress.

I’ve never been a big fan of simple to do lists. They can get cluttered. And I don’t like vision boards, they just focus on the end result. I forget about phone notes. So what do I do.

I use an action board. It’s pretty much just a big visual to do list. But it works for me.

Action Board

I call it SWIFT. Study the picture above and you will get the idea

It consists of 5 Categories.

Social – This is any potential money makers. Hobbies/ Websites/ Contacts/ etc…

Work – This is anything that is bringing you money RIGHT NOW! Your job/ business/ etc..

Inner – Self Help, Mindset, and family. Whether it’s reading books, watching documentaries, spending time with family, going to church, etc. This is something that helps your inner self and makes you feel good.

Financial – This is your money issues. If you have a budget this is where you make sure you are following it. Check your savings and make sure you are paying off your debts.

Take Care Of – This is your physical goals. Your workouts, your diet, supplements, etc.

Personal Action Board
This is the actual action board i use.

I set 6 goals weekly in each category and don’t set new ones until they are all done. That’s 30 small goals a week. It sounds like a lot but it really isn’t.

I focus on one goal per category each day. 5 things to get done each day that make progress. Some are small and take less than 5 minutes. Could be a simple phone call or and email blast. You will find yourself setting up some things you may take for granted otherwise.

1 Goal per day in each category. Have at least 5 or 6 queued up for the rest of the week in each category. If there are interruptions or unexpected consequences, put them in the interruptions section and get those done ASAP! Before moving on.

Once your list is done, REWARD YOURSELF!

There’s no better feeling on a when Saturday comes and your ‘list’ is empty. DONE!

So why not reward yourself?

You will see progress and you will be that much closer to your goals. I guarantee it!!

ACM Wallet

All men have important things to keep at all times. Mainly cards and money. How you choose to store them on you, says a lot about you. We all go through our ages in life, and our needs change with our age. Here’s how my wallet changed with age.

The Best Wallets For a Man

Foldable Wallet
Foldable Wallet

High School and early adulthood: Throughout high school I had a ‘normal’ foldable wallet. I never had a trifold wallet. Too bulky. And I was never one of those guys who had a chain on my wallet. That looks ridiculous. I really only needed the wallet for money, debit card, the obligatory condom, and pictures of my girlfriend and family. Yes I was that guy that had pictures. Foldable wallets are the norm when you’re young.

ACM Wallet

Early 20’s: When I was in my early 20’s I received the ACM wallet as a christmas gift from a co worker. I must say at the time I really wanted that wallet and I loved it. It had 6 slots for cards, where I carried my license, debit, credit card, and a few store cards. And it also had a clip for money bills. I really loved it and it was very convenient. It lasted me about 6 years before the buttons started wearing off and breaking. By the time it was time to replace it, I had done a lot of growing up and my style changed. My wardrobe didn’t allow the ‘bulkiness’ of the acm wallet. So it was time to move on.

The Best Wallet For a Man

Zclip Talladega
Zclip Talladega

Mid-Late 20’s Until Present: There is no reason why an adult man should walk around with a very bulky wallet. I see it all the time. Guys with ridiculously fat wallets. Packed with unnecessary things like old receipts, pictures, random papers, different cards, you name it. The only thing a man needs in his wallet are a license or some sort of identification, a debit or credit card, and cash. Store cards can can be carried when you’re going to that store. You don’t need to walk around with much. Most men don’t even carry cash these days. The answer. A money clip. I own the Zclip. Going on 3 years and besides some cosmetic wear and tear, it’s still perfect and does its job. It fits nicely any pants pocket or jacket pocket.

There you have it. If you’re a man, ditch the wallet. Keep a money clip with only what you need.

How to Keep Your Abs During Winter

Winter is here. That means the holidays are coming up soon. It doesn’t take much to get out of shape during this season. But it also doesn’t take much to stay in shape. Follow these 3 rules to stay in shape. Or to lose weight if you need it.

How to Keep Your Abs During Winter

1: Don’t Skip Cardio (1 Hour a WEEK)

CARDIO! A dreaded word. No one really looks forward to doing cardio. Well except for sprinters and triathletes. Well lets face it, no one in the everyday world looks forward to cardio. But as long as you push yourself, it doesn’t have to be long and boring. You don’t have to run or jog for and hour.

In fact, many studies show that doing as little as 20 minutes of interval sprints (30-60 seconds sprint, 30-60 second jog or any other combination of alternatives) burns more fat than if you just jog or do any cardio machine at a steady pace for an hour. If you’re not super tired at the end of each sprint, you’re doing it wrong.

20 minutes at 1 minute sprints and 1 minute jogs should give you 8-10 reps. Aim for 3 times a week. Thats 1 measly hour of cardio a week. But trust me. It’s worth it.

2: Weights

If you really hate working out, hit the weights at least 2 days a week. Hit your upper body on one day (Chest, Shoulders, Arms), and your lower body on another day (Legs, Butt, Glutes).

(If you like working out, do at least 3 weight days (non cardio days). Rest at least one day a week.

  • Do at least 2 sets of each exercise. 8-10 reps for strength (higher weight), 12-15 reps for weight (lower weight)
  • Keep your rest periods under a minute. Preferably 30 seconds.
  • Durning ‘rest periods’, do some body weight exercises. Pushups or burpees are recommendable. Aim for 15 reps or 30 seconds non stop.

3: The Diet (Also read: Lifestyle)

You may have wondered why there’s no “abs” section. Well that’s because 90% of abs workouts, or six pack, consists of what you put in your body, not the exercises. You can have the perfect ab workout, but if you eat like crap, you will never have a six pack.

Mike Dolce of The Dolce Diet says “Don’t Count Calories, Make Calories Count.” This couldn’t be any more true. Maintaining your weight or keeping it off is all about calories in vs. calories out. If you eat a lot (even ‘healthy’ food) but you sit on the couch all day watching TV, no doubt you’re going to get fat. But if you live an active lifestyle, of course you need those calories. Follow these 4 rules and you’ll be fine.

    • Eat breakfast. I try to live by the ketogenic lifestyle, after going through the steak and eggs diet (more on that later). So I don’t eat too many carbs. And I usually don’t eat my first meal until about noon or 1 pm. But on the days I need to carb up, I have carbs with my breakfast. It boosts your metabolism and gives you the energy to power through the morning.
    • Geo’s Carb Up Breakfast. An egg or and egg white, with a slice of turkey breast, on a slice of whole wheat.
    • – Other recommended breakfasts: Mike Dolce Breakfast Bowl, and Uncle Vic’s Low Carb Breakfast Bowl. (Stay tuned on DTF for comparison and recipes.)
    • Eat whatever you want just be smart about it. Key words, portion control. If you find yourself feeling guilty about what your about to eat, control the portion. A good way to do this is to buy single serving tupperware. So some research, find the correct portions for your ‘perfect size’ meal and keep them with you. I recommend six pack bags 20 oz tupperware. Perfect size and durable. Just eat whatever fits. But don’t exaggerate (read: try to pack it overstuff it)
    • If you must eat out, keep it on check. Going to subway, grab the six inch instead of the footlong. Burger Joint, eat the burger, not the fries. Pizza place, just have 2 slices, not 4. Restaurant, skip the appetizers; Get a to go box and immediately pack half of your meal. Sound simple? That’s because it is.
    • Watch your drinks. I would tell you to “Just drink water!” But we all know in this world, that’s a little tough. But stick to water at least 90% of the time. Aim for a gallon a day. If you must drink something sweet, try a twist of lemon in your gallon or water. Wan’t something even sweeter? (Store bought) STAY AWAY FROM SUGAR. It can go by many names. Always read the label. Get a diet soda. (no more than 1) Stay away from most juices. I recommend Arizona Zero Green Tea. Black Coffee or Bulletproof coffee is also great. It gets me through the day.
    • Eat a lot of nuts. If you need a pick me up, grab a handful of nuts. Many studies show that almonds are the best nuts to snack on but lets face it, they can get pretty boring. Here’s a list of different varieties of nuts that you can snack on. They all offer different health benefits. Just remember. Portion control. Limit it to just a handful between meals.

Keep these 3 Rules in mind ( I know, the ‘diet’ rule deserved its own article), and you will have no problem keeping your midsection on check this winter.

See You Next Time

What a Drink Says About a Woman

You ever go to a bar or club and see women drinking? Well what they have in their hands can tell you a lot about them. Here are the most common drinks women order and what they say about them. Pay attention guys.

Lemon Drops

She’s fun to go out with. She loves to have fun and is up to date on the latest trends and fashion. She may be street smart, but not necessarily book smart.

Red Wine

She’s conservative and health conscious. But shes also sensual, nurturing and warm. She likes the warmness wine gives when it hits her throat.

Beer

She’s trying to be one of the guys. Sure she can be fun and at times spontaneous, but she’s not comfortable with her femininity.

Cosmo

She’s a high maintenance chick. She tries too hard to look sophisticated around people and she doesn’t go with the flow. Beware!

Martini

She might be high maintenance, but she’s a serious drinker. Women who drink martinis are usually stressed out or depressed. They are looking to change their mood fast.

Rum and Coke

She’s laid back and likes to have fun.

Champagne

She wants people to think she’s an intellectual. She’s an elitist. She thinks she’s more important than people around her. She wishes she was french and is living some sort of fantasy.

Scotch

She takes care of herself and is grounded. She’s intelligent! She knows who she is and doesn’t care what anyone else thinks.

Get yourself a woman who drinks scotch.

See you next time!

How to Get in the Club

Have you ever tried to get into the hot club only to be rejected by the bouncer? Then you have to go wait in line hoping you can get in. Fear not, here are 8 useful tips for getting in good with the doorman and finally getting in the club.

Step 1: First Time

If it’s your first time going to said club, get there as early as you can; preferably before the place gets packed. If possible, bring at least 1 hot girl. More than 1 and you have a better shot at getting in on your first try.

Step 2. Bring a Regular

Don’t know the spot? Bring someone who does. Bringing someone who has a reputation at the club ill make it easier the next time you go alone

Step 3. Look the Part

As with business, you have to dress for success. Make sure you feel like you fit I when you get to the door. If you have a problem matching, wear all black. Dress pants, button up shirt, dress shoes. You cant go wrong.

Step 4. Look Important

Walk up to the door as if you are supposed to be there. Look the doorman in his eyes as id you expect him to let you in. As with women, doormen can smell fear. Look nervous? He knows you’re not supposed to be there.

Step 5. Watch the attitude

If you don’t think you’ll make it, wait in line patiently. Don’t be rude. Intimidation will usually not work on doormen or bouncers.

Step 6. Don’t Drop Names

Don’t pretend you’re on a first name basis with doormen you don’t know. If you try and it comes off mediocre, that is a giant warning sign for them. Its worse than not knowing anyone.

Step 7. Spend some money

If you don’t have connects, offer to buy a table. Sure it’s expensive but it gets you in the door. Whatever you do, don’t try to buy off the doorman. It’s insulting to them and won’t get you into the nicest clubs.

Step 8. Try once more

If you don’t get in the first time, try again. But be classy about it. Come back after a few days. They will probably recognize you. If they like you they might let you in. If you fail a second time, fuck it! It’s only one club in a million.

See you next time.

Benefits of Taking Cold Showers

I recently rewatched the movie 300. There is a scene in the movie, where the Spartans are standing near a cliff in a thunderstorm watching enemy boats get wrecked by the storm. They were ecstatic, excited, and cheering.

But none of them are shivering!

They are in a storm. It’s raining, I’m pretty sure it’s cold and all they are wearing are their little shorts and a cape. None of them were shivering. It occurred to me that they were probably used to it. There was no electricity back then so they most likely took cold showers.
Spartans were some of the toughest s.o.b’s in history. Both mentally and physically. And I believe it all with the fact that they took cold showers. After doing some research and reading tons of articles about cold showers I decided to give it a shot. I made the vow to take nothing but cold showers first thing in the morning. The benefits have been amazing.

Cold Showers

Benefits of Taking Cold Showers

Here are my top 6 reasons why you should take cold showers

1. Face uncomfortable situations
When you first start, taking a cold shower the first thing in the morning is one of the most uncomfortable situations you will face. The key is to just dive right in. Do NOT start warm and then go cold. Just face the situation and conquer it. This will let you deal with an uncomfortable situation first thing in the morning. It will give you the feeling that if you can handle that, you can handle anything.
2. You will feel refreshed and active
When you take a warm shower, you don’t want to get out. And when you do, you feel cold and think you should have stayed in. When you take a cold shower, if feels great when you get out. You feel refreshed, you feel active, and you’re ready to take on the world.
3. It makes you self aware
Warm showers make you take your body for granted. Feeling the shock of cold water pouring down your body causes your heart rate to increase, gets your blood flowing, and makes you take deep shallow breaths, thus increasing your oxygen intake. The sudden rush of adrenaline instantly wakes you up and give you a natural shot of energy for the day.
4. Waste less time in the restroom
When you first start out, you will want to be in and out as quick as possible. So you wont waste time thinking or reminiscing and instead you will keep it simple by just bathing in the shower. You will go from a 20 minute shower to a 5-7 minute shower.
5. Increased Testosterone
Many studies have shown that cold water increases testosterone. As a man, this one is a no brainer.
6. It make you feel like you could take on the world!
Jumping into ice cold water and not jumping back out takes some serious guts at first. Taking cold showers every day give you a sense of superiority over the rest of the world. It is one of the most uncomfortable and sometimes painful situations you can go through. Nothing else in the day will be as challenging.

How to do it!

This is very simple. All you have to do is man up. As with everything in like, make the choice and Just Do It! Turn on the cold water, and jump in. Focus. Don’t get distracted. Be in the moment. Once your done, you will look in the mirror and feel like a new person. Do it first thing in the morning, your mind and your body will thank you.

Till next time – Geo

How to DeClutter Your Life

Declutter your life

If there’s one philosophy I’ve learned throughout the years that I believe, it’s K.I.S.S. Keep It Simple Stupid!

We don’t need a life, business or personal, full of clutter.

When you start a business, you do your research. You look up information. Sometimes you find too much information and things become overwhelming. You try to cram it all in, you start using all the ways people say you should start, you try to do all the things people say you should do and it becomes overwhelming. Then it becomes discouraging.

What you have to do is take it a step at a time.

For example, I run a carpet cleaning business. When I started I found so many ideas and forms such as different estimate forms, audit forms for both commercial customers and residential customers, service agreements, appointment forms, you name it, I found them, made them for my business, and printed them. I tried to use them all but it became too much.

When I decluttered my business life, I kept it to a minimum. I use the service agreement form as the estimate form and that became just one form for the customer to sign. Then they get a receipt. Simple.

I don’t spend time sending paperwork through mail anymore, having print, buy stamps, put them in envelopes and mail. Now it’s automated through email. Simple.

You can do the same thing with life. Don’t keep physical things because of “memories” or some shit like that. Memories are in your head. You’re just hoarding. Go through your closets, cabinets, your whole house, if there’s things you haven’t used in 6 months, you most like don’t need it.

Same thing with friends, don’t keep friends just because you’ve known them for a long time. If there are people that haven’t been positive influences in your life for a while, guess what, time to stop spending so much time with them.

A lot of things or people we have in life, we really don’t need. They add more to think about, which could lead to stress. Unnecessary!

So de-clutter your life.

Until Next Time…
